Natural Wonder of Karavanke/Karawanken
Also on SP a lot was already written about the phaenomenon of narcissus fields in Karavanke/Karawanken. In May suddenly it looks af is snow would fall again on the slopes below Golica. But it's millions of white flowers - narcissus.
I was surprised reading Stanko Klinar's book about Karavanke, where he mentioned that an author, named Milko Matičetov found 120 Slovenian names for this flower. Yes (I'm repeating after Stanko) - with words: hundred twenty, so you wouldn't think it's a typo. These flowers are called also: ključavnice, bedenice, klunte, kukalce, kolence, klučnce, medenice, jalovke, sončice, medenke, bedenke, mandalence, rambovščice, sugalice, pisavke, binkoštnice, jurjevke, škrotovinjek, etc., etc. 120 names, only in Slovenian language!
And to conclude with a humorous Stanko's comment: "So, it is bitterly little need for the Greek narcissus, even if, to God be claimed, narcissus as an universal, overall name is very handful, neutral and denotatively very exact: these flowers are true beauties, exactly upon their role model, the self-centered Narcis. All credits to the one, who named them so!"
