National ascent to Krivan 2006

National ascent to Krivan 2006

For whole centuries in medieval ages Slovak people wondered why one high peak is so shaped and found many fables and folktales about it. They called it after its shape Krivan (roughly translated to Mount Crooky). The name is stated in David Frolich book of 1639. The name of the peak has experienced some intellectual fights in 19th century. Germans tried to name it Krummhorn and Hungarians tried to set the name for Gorbehegy. None of these came into praxis and Krivan has always been Krivan. The story of the peak and Slovaks' relationship to it has been very long and still lacks a really serious and deep scientific description. We are so passionate of Krivan, that a 165 years old tradition of yearly national ascents of Slovaks still has its participants. This is the picture of such an ascent in 2006.
