Imagine...

that people actually ski down there, descending the Glacier de Merdéré! Not for the fainthearted...

On this picture it doesn't even look too bad, in reality it looks even steeper. But What a ride that would be! :)

I had another look at the map to determine the actual gradient. The top part of the glacier, most of which is visible here, gains 500 m elevation over a horizontal distance of just under 600 m, giving an average gradient of 41°. Some sections will surely be a little steeper, but, judging from your photo, not by all that much.

Even knowing the gradient, I still don't want to descend there on skis, and definitely not when it's icy. I'm not that good a skier!

Not extremely steep, but still, that's not what you could call a gentle slope :)
