North Velebit from Lika

North Velebit from Lika

Unlike South Velebit, whose continental side rises steeply above Lika region (in one piece), continental side of Mid Velebit and of most part of North Velebit descends towards Lika gradually, in many steps. Between those ridges are long and quite deep valleys which cut into massif of Velebit from Lika. Because of that main peaks are far from Lika and this shot shows how peaks of North Velebit look from its plains. On the left is bulky Veliki Kozjak (1629m). Then come Goli Vrh (1669m) and double headed Krajacev Kuk (1659m) (in Rozanski Kukovi group). Below the Sun are two main peaks of Hajducki Kukovi group: Kuk (1649m) & Golubic (1650m). On the right is Veliki Rajinac (1667m). Photo: Aleksandar Gospic

Stormy evening on the mountains

Veliki Kozjak looks interesting (we used to have a TV show called Kojak!)

Re: Stormy evening on the mountains

Veliki Kozjak is considered to be one of most beautiful peaks of Velebit. Its picturesque white limestone cliffs are rising above deep green forests. It will have its own page in coming future. Kozjak name comes from word koza which means goat. It was probably named after mountain goats which certainly find its rocky peaks amusing. Does Kojak mean something? I think I've heard that word, it sounds familiar to me.

Very nice one, Velebit!
I've been on Kozjak and part of Rozanski Kukovi. This is totally new perspective...
