A squirrel will break the shell of a nut with its teeth, then clean the nut by licking it or rubbing on its face before it is buried. This action applies a scent to the nut which helps the squirrel find it later, even under a foot of snow. Typically, there's NO snow where this Antelope Ground Squirrel was feeding; so when a nut-loving squirrel is searching for its nuts, you don't have to be a nutty rocket scientist to know that this nut-loving squirrel will find its nuts before they're eaten by a nuttier nut-loving neighbor.. ..who most likely has enough nuts than a rodent deserves to have. Squirrels really drive me nuts, but i would give this one the keys to my vegetable garden. He is just too cute. Nice shot! They have to be about the smartest little vermin.
