Hi Peter,
thanks for your vote! Streams in the fall are fairly trivial- the 2nd one requires some footwork, but is quite manageable. Not sure how they are in the spring, but probably a much greater challenge. We didn't go to Crown Valley (will have to check my wording & maybe change)- no time, & also an area that hunters seem to enjoy, so probably a bad idea this time of year! I would highly recommend checking the area out- beautiful & rarely travelled.
There's now a 5.11 route up there. See: http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.html?topic_id=147641&msg=147641#msg147641
Looking forward to hiking out there someday. Similarly featured rock exists on Shuteye Ridge, and places like Church Dome. See also the nearby Hoffman Mtn. Bruce B. added: http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/225486/hoffman-mountain.html
Just to make things easier on rappell (meaning carrying less gear and less chance of snags), I want to know the opinion of people who have made the rap on this idea. I think it would be interesting to add a hanging rap anchor just above the overhang with chains or webbing extending over the edge (if needed). I believe it could possibly work out to a single rope rap with a 60m rope and this would be the goal. I stood on the sub-peak to pull my ropes and crossed every finger and limb as we pulled them through the ancor. Success seemed less than guaranteed.
