Okay ...

Any guess as to what species? Eastern edge of
the Desolation wilderness, south-facing slope,
around 7,000 feet in elevation & rocky soils.

It was a long time ago, and I'm not as young
as I used to be. I'm thinking ... 5 needles per bundle. What are you thinking???
