Orawa Tatras Labelled

Orawa Tatras Labelled

When you have climbed the couloir (Kobylarzowy Żleb), a spectacular view opens up to the west: It is the Orawa Tatras that rise on the other side of the border, in Slovakia, where the range is usually referred to as the Roháče. The names in the picture - although all of the labelled peaks rise on the territory of Slovakia (except Wołowiec, which sits on the border) - are Polish. Here are the Slovak names, from left to right: Plačlivé, Ostrý Roháč, Volovec, Tri kopy, Hrubá kopa, Baníkov, Pachoľa, Spálená, Malý Salatín, Veľký Salatín, Brestová.

Good job

At what time did you capture this spectacular scenery?

Re: Good job

Half past one in the afternoon. I wasn't sure that I recognized all the peaks - the last time I visited the Polish Tatras was probably in the past century, just too many people in the summer - but I did.

Re: Good job

I visited Rohace twice (1999 and 2003), but unfortunatelly in summer season.

Re: Good job

And I visited the Slovak Tatras several times in the first decade of this century - August each time - and it hardly ever got as crowded as it does here on the Polish side.

Re: Good job

Yep, this is the main reason why I have never visited your part. But now I'll try to choose better solution. How about the last week in September? Are there any holidays during those weekdays in PL?

Re: Good job

The last week of September should be OK (no holiday) although the university students are still there. But that kind of folk can also be OK :)
