Very good description...

...with, I guess, realistic assessment of difficulties.

Consider if the following are errors in description:

II Approach Routes from Trafoi chapter, paragraph 1:
"From Trafoi village, take trail 19 up the eastern flanks of Ortler..." - is it the western flanks?

Route Description chapter, paragraph 1:
"The first minutes there is a good trail heading towards the north." - or is it towards the south?

Cheers!

Re: Very good description...

Hi Vid,
Thanks for your sharp eye. You are right indeed on both points. It is always good to have a second reader to catch those things you don't see yourself while writing up a page.
About the assessment of difficulties: I saw too many people getting themselves in dangerous situations. On this route there was a father with his 10 year old son making all kinds of dangerous moves getting the 10year old in danger. I'd rather warn people on an informative page like sp to avoid inexperienced people from going on a tour like this, although it might sound a bit harsh :-)
Cheers! Lodewijk

Re: Very good description...

You are right, Lodewijk! I was not on Ortler, but one or two times we wanted to climb it with my Jasmina. As we are not climbers, we expected at that time (many years ago) "some difficulties in the rock section", which I understood then as not harder than UIAA I-II. Later I did read more objective descriptions, which were saying the same as you say. So, objectivity in rating difficulties is important. That's why we have standard scales.

Cheers,
Vid

Outstanding Page Lodewijk

Great topos, maps, and descriptions. The photos are quite dazzling too, looks like a fun peak!

Re: Outstanding Page Lodewijk

Hi Josh, Thanks a lot for recovering the page! I am glad it is back online :-)
Yes, the Ortler is a fun and famous peak here in the Alps. I'm glad you like the page and once again: thanks for your help getting it back online.
Cheers!
