Painted Lady - Dunkirk

Whilst working at a small radio tower near the village of Dunkirk in Kent on Friday the 29th May 2009, I took a walk to the edge of a neighbouring oil seed rape field in my lunch break. I was amazed to see how many of these beautiful butterflies there where landing on the rape flowers. This picture captures the butterfly in perfect action getting ready to take the nector. The butterfly blends in lovely with the sharp detail of the flowers. I added another picture of a painted lady but it was not as clear and detailed as this one...!
