Thanks for your vote. I will add information on the play Texas but am not sure what information to add for rock climbing. Being only a beginning climber, and having gone without any climbing gear I didn't do any techical rock climbing (I did do hiking look for a route soon). It did however seem to me that much of the rock that I scrambled on and explored throughout the canyon was rotten and unclimbable. Please help in this subject matter. Look for a finished page soon.
Thanks for your vote. I've been busy the last few days, but am now going to work on quickly finishing up this page. I've changed the coordinates to the ones you provided me with. I'm not sure what happened since those were the coordinates I'd gotten from Topozone. Look for a much improved page soon.
last fall a buddy and myself hiked around the palo duro for about three days. we made the mistake of hiking the west wall of the canyon all the way to the top and it was probably one of the most dangerous situations i've ever put myself in. the wall was pretty much loose gravel and dirt and if there had just been one little slip it would have been game over.
Were you following any trail or just bushwhacking your way around. Either way you do have to be very careful of the loose and rotten rock that is prominent throughout the canyon.
we weren't following any trail. from the ground we picked what we thought would be the best root to the top even though it ended up being way steeper than we thought it would be. the hardest part where the layers of rock towards the top because it was like climbing up chalk. what worked for us was having a good walking stick with a good point on it. we would shove it into all the loose gravel and use it as a brace before every step.
Texas Parks just purchased around 10,000 acres of the canyon, nearly doubling the size of the park. There is a whole bunch of new stuff to explore! You might want to update the page to reflect that.

Untitled CommentI didn't know about this place. Reminds me a lot of southern Utah.
