After a successful trip up Mt. Elbert my friend and I stopped to summit Nebraska. Even though it may not be a mountain I still enjoy HP's like this. I love listening to silence out in the middle of nowhere. Watched the sun go down then continued on our way back to WI.

Interesting place. We visited on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Several register entries from the weekend. Also visited the nearby NE, CO, WY state tri-point. Thanks to the landowners for allowing public access.

After an all encompassing drive from my sister's house in Des Moines, Iowa, totaling 621 miles, I finally arrived at Panarama Point. I decided to stop off at an old abandoned school house just four or so miles down gravel roads from the actual high point. The land was so open, not a soul in sight. As I drove, throwing up dust in my past, I passed a farmhouse just like the directions said. The cattle guard was next. I stopped the car and took an envelope used to collect the two buck entrance fee, left an offering, then moved on through the rubber hose spring gate. I jumped out and snapped a picture of the roaming bison. Turning at the second cattle guard, I knew I was close. Just up the hill. It was a cold, 30's, and I wasn't dressed for the weather. After reaching the monument, I leapt out the Jeep. The register was interesting. It was comprised of two books, I wrote in the latter of the second. To read other people's comments was something different than expected. I never once thought of other people's experiences on the highpoint trail. One interesting note was written on 9.11.1 and opened with simply, "Sad Day". It then went on to talk about how the group was going to keep on with their highpoint trip. Written in bold letters were words from John Lennon's "Imagine". Another page revealed the last people there before I was four days previous. I'm sure you run into people sometimes. So I drank a Miller High Life and sailed off to snowy Frisco, Colorado.

The anomalous terrain of Pine Bluffs was a tease, as it flattened back out, but still worth seeing. Where were the buffalo?

Great look at the buffalo herd trotting by. The contrast between the open skies of this HP and Mount Elbert two days earlier ... well, that's highpointing. HP #20.

My wife doesn't often get to chase a state highpoint since all the ones I've done pretty much are in the west but it was fun to be able to share this one with her. We had also planned to go get North and South Dakota but a bad wheel bearing in my truck made us head home so I could get the thing fixed.

Oh yes, we stopped at the rest area off exit 401 and got a map that really helped find the HP from the information center located there.

After Panorama Point we visited the Tri-State marker. Note the Tri-State Marker sign is gone. Turn off where the dirt meets the pavement.

This was a nice break for me. I met some other Highpointers there as well. I signed the log beneath their names and 2 days later I saw their names in the log at the Kansas HP!
