In my younger, crazier...in the forties, days, I jumped off of a bridge like this with a 150 foot climbing rope tied to my harness and the bridge.
We climbed the bridge from underneath up the concrete and steel arch to its apex. We had to do it all in the dark to avoid getting arrested.

Re: In my younger, crazier...Marc,
were you a couple of inches taller after the jump?
:D
We get lots, and I mean lots, of people base jumping here. Not too many serious injuries or fatalities, however-considering the sheer numbers.

Boy, don't I wish! Especially since I'm short.
Well, jumping with a climbing rope is quite different than base jumping. It's very painful and I'll never do it again.
The bridge I'm talking about is nick named "suicide bridge"
Many people have jumped, and one about half an hour before one of the time I was nearby to see the ambulance people taking the body out. Yikes!

Re: In my younger, crazier...I bet that hurt, using a climbing rope!
We have plenty of jumpers off the Perrine bridge, as well, unfortunately. I have been taking walks or hiking around there several times when SAR folks were looking for bodies. Nasty stuff.
