I had no idea someone had made a page for this mountain. There isn't much evidence on the summit of anyone even being up there. I have no idea why it doesn't have an official name and isn't more well known in the park. It's likeness is featured in lot's of the promotional literature for the Furnace Creek Inn, including the official website.
Today was my 2nd time up there. I also climbed it in February of 2011, during my first stint working at Furnace Creek Ranch. Both times I've climbed it right from the ranch, approaching via Funeral Slot Canyon, which is a beautiful objective in its own right. Here is a link to a trip report about that slot canyon: http://www.panamintcity.com/funeral/funeralslot.html
Climbing it right from the Ranch, or from Texas Springs campground requires at least 8 hours, even for strong climbers, but it is an absolutely spectacular way to spend a day in Death Valley.
Thanks so much for the page. I can't recommend this peak highly enough to any mountaineers visitng Death Valley during the winter months.
