ACH open to Islip?

by Luciano136 » Thu Mar 03, 2011 4:50 am

Can you get to Islip Saddle from the west? Caltrans says it's open but I just want to make sure. Looks like it's only a short section east of La Canada that is still closed but you can get around that.

The Caltrans site says it's open to Islip Saddle, but that's inaccurate. Actually the gate is closed at about Cedar Springs, which is 3 miles west of Islip. Looks like the road beyond the gate is plowed though.

"Take the 210 Freeway to Sunland Blvd. If your coming from the La Canada direction you will turn right when you get off the freeway. If your coming from the valley take a left when you get off the freeway. From this point it’s .07 miles to Oro Vista rd. You will take a left on Oro Vista and drive until you reach Big Tujunga Canyon Road.

Take a right and drive the 12 miles up to Angeles Forest Hwy. Take a left on Angeles Forest Hwy and drive the 4.4 miles to Upper Tujunga Canyon Rd. Take a right and drive the 9 miles to the Angeles Crest Hwy and take a left.

Awesome! Thanks so much, I'm still getting a sense of the complexity of access down here...

For anyone interested, the road is indeed closed at Cedar Springs even though Caltrans and a sign at the bottom of the road indicate ACH is open till Islip Saddle/hwy 39.
