Any Camping Near Celo Knob / Horse Rock?

by TomSellick » Fri Oct 23, 2009 1:17 am

I'm heading up Bowlens Creek this weekend (maybe) and I want to camp near Celo. Anybody remember any campsites near there? I will not be going to Deep Gap, even if I have to camp on the summit.

Lots of great camping along Horse Rock. Very grassy and open. If the weather's with you, you'll have fantastic views.

If you prefer something more sheltered, you can hike about 1/3 of the way down the Woody Gap Trail where there's a good campsite (with a fire ring last time I passed it) under a rocky overhang right along the trail. It's in the forest and sheltered from wind. But you'd have to climb back up to the Crest the next morning.

No water anywhere along the Crest Trail after you leave Bowlens Creek, except for those springs on either side of Deep Gap. So take plenty of water if you camp at Horse Rock.
