A friend and I thought we'd have a lighter day and decided to finally go climb Mount Baldwin - so close to the trailhead, but never climbed by either of us after all these years. We did a rather extravagant variation of the Class 4 NE Ridge route and had a blast scrambling up this amazing peak; for over a hundred feet, we were climbing on an arete made entirely of garnets, and the entire day was weird like that - a total geological tour-de-force; the famous calcite crystal caches are just the beginning on this thing.
Anyway, after reaching the South summit, we were treated to an amazing view straight down and over to the entire East Face of Baldwin. The rock varies anywhere from polished banded solid marble to crumbing and dried clay-like rock that pulls off in huge sheets at a good tug, but still; this is a Big, very shear face, and surely there is a route up it somewhere? Anyone ever heard of it being climbed directly?
