Bishop Peak (San Luis Obispo) high point info?

by Jesus Malverde » Tue Mar 22, 2011 12:44 am

Howdy folks,
Last Sunday I climbed the second highest summit on Bishop Peak right outside of San Luis Obispo. I took a look at the highest point and said "another day." I was climbing it on a whim (and in a rainstorm) so I didn't get any beta beforehand on climbing the summit block. A cursory web search hasn't revealed an information on the very highest point of Bishop Peak.

My question:
what's easiest route on the highest summit block and what's it rated?

Here's a Bob Burd picture of the highest point taken from the secondary summit (highest point is on the left):

Thank you for any information you may provide!

The first time I was up there, Matthew and I said "another day", much as you. I came back a month later with my kids and a rope. With rock shoes, I was able to solo it fairly easily (in fact I had to do it three or four times in the process of getting the young 'uns up there via the rope) and would rate it at class 4. It's much less intimidating once you're at the base of it and then climb it on the left side.
