Boston Basin Conditions?

by absinthe52 » Sun May 22, 2011 8:25 pm

Hey there,
Headed to your state in a few weeks for a Rainier attempt. I heard you guys have been getting a fair amount of snow recently. I was planning on trying for Torment/Forbidden after Rainier. Can someone give me their best guess as to whether there will be too much snow on Torment/Forbidden or not? Trying to get some alternate ideas in case its not in condition.
Thanks,
Matt

Here's your traverse on May 10. Not much has melted since then. In fact, it's probably being added to.

If we get a lot of warm weather between now and then, you might be OK. Chances are, you're going to want to find something else to climb unless you like snowy rock. It's probably a great climb right now, just not the typical T-F traverse.

Nice shot Tom, was that taken from Forbidden?

Thanks, Josh.

The tall peak in the back is Forbidden. The ridge at center right is the Torment-Forbidden Traverse. The shot was taken from the summit of Mt. Torment.

I said the wrong one (got the two mixed up when posting). I knew that was Forbidden in the background. So my guess was right, I said it wrong.

I've known those peaks since 2005. But I'm getting back into it.
