Hi everybody, have any of you traversed either way E-W or W-E the Breithorn-Lyskamm ridge. Thinking of doing so sometime March/April. If you have any info, it would be great if you can share it.

It would be interesting but I think the double sided cornice risk on Lyskamm and the avalanche risk in the Castor-Prolux col area would take most of the fun out of it.

Double cornices have appearently not formed in the last many years... last year it was no problem and a very popular tour. Castor-Pollux are likewise fine tours at that time of year, typically, although you must be obviously aware of avalanche assessment in general and potential risk, especially on the steep open faces of the Castor.

By the way it's Liskamm, not Lyskamm -- this is the generally accepted name for the peak but appearently not on SummitPost...

I have been in the area this July. It is a beautiful place full of possibilities. There is a very nice bivouac hut at 3700 m approximately which it is a very good starting point for excursions: Bivacco Rossi e Volante (also known as Rocca Nera bivac) in the Italian side. This is situated just under the Roccia Nera summit (over the 4000 m). It is the perfect start point for Breithorn traverses and also for Castor and Pollux excursions.

For a Liskamm traverse it is a little bit far away, but still in the area. When being fit you could depart from there to traverse the Liskamm and to end in the opposite side of the ridge.

The time of the year is avalanches' favourite time to be active.
