Bolt chopping: http://www.planetmountain.com/english/N ... eyid=39061
David Lama free ascent: http://www.planetmountain.com/english/N ... eyid=39067

Definitely big news! Your post is the first I've heard of it on here. Lots going on on SuperTopo, not sure how many SPers discussing things there instead.

Edit: a combined account with more of the history and controversy of the route: http://www.ukclimbing.com/news/item.php?id=66281

i Guess everyone has migrated there, i was following the discussion on supertopo, but am really surpised nobody is talking here.

Actually, the news is huge, and as most things connected to that mountain, quite controversial...
Still, whatever one's opinion might be, it's good to see history in the making.

Well, to me K&K showed the same arrogance Maestri used when he bolted that route.

One of the things i've been wondering about, reading the various discussions regards the pics of the bolted lines.
Especially the belay point with over ten bolts.
Is it certain those were Maestri's bolts or might they have been left there after the movie they shot there or by others?

I found a video taken by a bystander of the reaction of Kruk (or Kennedy, i'm not sure), when confronted with the fact the majority of the climbers in El Chalten had voted to leave the bolts up:

Hard times in Patagonia...

I guess the climbers have left SP:)
(Or the more mellow ones have stayed)

Either way Supertopo has a big discussion on it. I can see both sides of the issue: removing the "bolt ladder" or letting it stay as a piece of climbing history and let people have a go at it. The chop or not is always a difficult discussion. Climbing isn't a democracy and no one owns a climb (even if it seems so).
