Ferris Mountain?

by Castlereagh » Sat Jul 31, 2010 5:00 pm

Anyone ever been up that way? I'm thinking of heading towards Rawlins in a few weeks to try and tackle Ferris, Whiskey and Bradley. The latter too seem pretty basic, close to dirt roads and whatnot. There is not a lot of information out there on Ferris though. From what I can find on topo's and google earth, it looks like there's a viable route through the notch in the limestone fins almost directly below the actual summit. From there you could turn NW up a drainage to gain a steep ridge that meets the east-west summit ridge a little west of the summit, from the south. Access wise there's faint tracks on the topo all the way to almost 8000' near some springs below the summit, and it looks like if you take Ferris Rd and what's marked as a "county road" on some maps you can get at least to "Larsen Place" on the map, around 7200', with basic 4WD.

Anyway, if anyone else has more information on this area and/or has been there before, I'd definitely appreciate it, as it's pretty scarce on these interwebs.
