And descending scree helps prepare you for ski season. Have you forgotten all about scree skiing?

I was think about that the other day walking down a trail, why not find a big slab and ride it down the scree? I mean other then getting a face full of gravel when you fall off, what could go wrong?

Bob Burd wrote:The slab generally slides much faster than your feet since it rides on top and your feet are partially buried in the scree. With practice, you could probably get good enough at it to keep from killing yourself and have a nice ride. The trouble is getting the practice. Falling backwards off the slab is usually not too bad since you either fall on your butt or with some modicum of grace land on your feet and continue to slide in the wake of the careening slab. Falling forwards presents more problems, including the face full of gravel that you mention, but even worse is that the slab then runs you over and either bashes into your limb or torso, or skips over the top and takes little pieces of you with it. After one of these episodes, assuming you've survived, you're less likely to repeat the effort which of course is the only way to get better at it. This is all theoretical of course.
