5lb is reasonable for a 2-person tent. If your sleeping bag is under 3lb that's fine too. If not, $150 gets you a MH Ultra Lamina 15 - no need for a $400 2lb down bag if money is an issue.

The pack is a big part of the problem. Buy a light 40-50L pack. You tend to fill the space you have, so a small pack forces you to think about items more.

Don't bring changes of clothes. If you don't end up wearing every item you have in the morning around camp (minus extra socks), you brought too much.

Use a closed cell foam pad.

Bring one dish, and one pot.

Bring very little else.
