As in self-belay vs. self-arrest position? One will find all sorts of opinions on which is best, and when.

No, from the spike . . . you know, the pointy end that you could actually fall on and get impaled . . . I gave him some "pointers" on self-arrest and laughed at him, but didn't do much good. Again, the snow-ball to the face saved him.

agree

also agree

Stranger things have happened.

Now that I think of it, the long-shot of a troll hacking an inactive user's account to post is a possibility. Questions are:

1) Was Azzy inactive for some time before the post?

2) Is there any way to determine if the IP address was different than the original used to set up the account (if that's even possible to know)?

Saw people glissading down from Trail Crest last year using that technique. I made sure to move as far right towards the switchers as possible and get the F%^& out of the way. :D

If he used internet access from the same ISP to login then the IP might be the same (at least prefix in case of dynamic IP); otherwise, the IP would be different (home, work, cafe, etc.).

This thread reminds me of the prat and prattle days, only better! Nothing like a solid practical joke, a good old fashion leg pulling.

I gave you a "Thanks" Deb, for being the wiser of the bunch, not much of a prize... but a modicum of recognition nonetheless. I'll do the same for Azzy if he ever shows again.

I don't think you can cry victory yet, Deb. Let's give it another week or two. After all, it is summer and school is out. Our young friend Azzy could just be on a month long binge-drinking-stooper after the disappointment of his failed summit attempt.

OP was great in that it was neither an obvious troll nor an obvious legit, yet naive post. Right there in the gray area. Ten pages worth of gray area. As a somewhat new SP user, this thread was great for me in that in introduced me to Mel Torino.
