Chile and Argentina Dec-Jan

by AnnMikaela » Sun Nov 24, 2013 11:36 pm

Hi!
I arrive in Santiago the 15 December, and will head south towards Patagonia and stay until the end of January. I do not have any fixed plans at all, so I am very flexible, but I would be keen to do a lot of climbing and hiking when I am down there.

Does anybody know about buses and prices from Santiago, or Puerto Montt to Punta Arenas, I know it takes time, but I have time. Please let me know if you have some information.

I would be super keen to find a climbing partner or hiking partner so give me a shout if you are around at this time.

I flew to Santiago->Balmaceda for $50 and hitch-hilked from there to El Chalten (1.5 days) - I didn't see any buses/combis on this route. A number of people seem to rent cars in Santiago/Chile and from what I understand it's possible to drop them off in Punta Arenas.

Hitchhike is your only option. From Puerto Montt buses stop at Rio Puelo...they are all cheap though. South of Rio Puelo you're on your own
