changing climate Another climber dies in Scotland

by tonyscotland » Fri Jan 19, 2007 8:39 pm

Well that makes a total of 5 climbers killed this year, all in the same area, according to mountain rescue its because of the unusual climate changes, the ice is loosing its Integrity, warm - wind - snow - thaw - freeze - thaw - snow and the cycle continues over short periods

As an ice climber with 15 years experience I tend to back away from a climb with suspect ice, even if I have traveled several hundreds of miles to get to the mountain or waterfall.

Apart from the cairmgorms having problems their has been more climbers falling off of the Ben as well, 3 climbers fell several hundred feet, very lucky they landed in soft snow, with severe Injuries, but they are a Live.

Im off to Rjukan in a few weeks in Norway, so I will soon see if the climate is changing rapidilly, have a choice of over a hundred frozen? waterfalls
