High Asia 2006 Calendar Available (with SP member photos)

by Nelson » Thu Nov 03, 2005 6:02 pm

The Himalaya Research Bulletin, in conjunction with Portland State University and the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies (ANHS), has produced a 2006 Calendar Journey to High Asia – Nepal, which is now available for purchase.

At least two SP members have photos in the calendar, grayfolded, and yours truly.

Note that use of the photos was donated, and 100% of the proceeds go to the above mentioned organizations.

Here is the month with my photo, which SP members have previously honored with Photo of the Week status.

Hey Nelson, nice work! Im just curious which shot grayfolded got in, I like the one with the yak better, although the Pumori pic got all the attention it seems..

Cheers,

Rick

Thanks Rick.

I have not received my copy of the calendar yet, so I'm not sure which photo by Gary (grayfolded) they decided to use for a large month image. On the January page above the small horizontal photo at the bottom was taken by him. There was initially some confusion on that one since he and I have very similar shots (prayer flags at the north base camp of Kangchenjunga), even though we were there one year apart.

As we speak Gary is currently on a 3+ week trek in the Nanda Devi region, presumably getting some more great photos!

I just learned that to date they have sold 1200 of the 1500 calendars printed, and orders are still coming in. She is considering a second printing, but will probably not do one.

By the way, the editor of the calendar is Barbara Brower, the daughter of David Brower, a noted American environmentalist.
