Wow, very tragic. To my knowledge, this is only the second such fatality in the last 100 years.

The eastern coyote is generally 25-50% larger than western coyote, and supposedly more aggressive. In the early 70s, there were lots of reports of eastern coyote standoffs with humans.

It must be the larger size because coyotes around the lower 48 don't do much besides run away from you. Very sad!
