If you live in SoCal and have a pair of mountaineering snowshoes that you want to sell, let me know ASAP.

Or just rent them at REi/SportChalet/A16 etc. and try before you buy.

For all of you who are following this thread, and I'm sure that's most of the summitpost membership, I've decided to rent snowshoes from REI Santa Ana. MSR Denalis: $14 for the first day and $6 for each additional day. The pick-up and drop-off days are free.

Where are you heading that you need snowshoes so desperately? I think the SoCal snowpack is consolidating quickly, but farther up north maybe not so much...??

On a side note I bought some Yukon Charlies for snow shoes several years back b/c they were cheap and they have honestly been awesome. They are slightly lighter than MSR's, have better flotation and crampons in my opinion, and cost significantly less. I have been using mine for 5 years and they have held up extremely well. REI sells them now $99 I think and even Costco had them for $79. As far as value goes I don't think they can be beat.

I am heading up Mt. Williamson (Sierras) on Sunday. As for the Yukons, the bindings on the pair I tried at REI were too small for my plastic mountaineering boots.

Cool, have a great trip. They must have changed the bindings over the years since mine fit on my snowboarding boots which are larger than both my leather and plastic mountaineering boots.
