You must really need money! I'd rather live on the street than sell mine.

I echo those sentiments. I didn't subscribe from the begining and took forever for me to put the whole collection together. Some of the earlier issues go for crazy amounts on ebay... issue 11 in particular.

My favourite issues happen to be 0, 2, 11 - I've read and reread those so many times but never would I want to sell them. Whoever gets them will be lucky the collecting work was done for them.

Same here. Took me at least a year to get them all. And 11 was the biggest pain to get.

If someone could answer my question, why are these magazines so sought after and expensive?!

Does anybody want to buy my stack of old car and drivers that sit in my bathroom?

By virtue of the reader base, climbers are not the most numerous people out there so the mag has a very low targetted demographic as it is very specialized to a specific sport practised by few overall. Secondly, with the low print run that exists because of the reason above, they used to sell their back issues prior to declaring bankruptcy after issue 24 I do believe. There was a large warehouse fire that destroyed all the back issues from issue 24 to issue 0.

Issue 0 itself, there are 2 versions, the original dated 2002 and a reprint labelled as such inside on the first page with the reprinted date of 2004 or 5 (I only own the original so I'm not 100% certain) The first few issues had what, maybe a 1000 or so subscribers? Add that to the fire that destroys all the extra back issues, what you're left with is a "rare" magazine - not many in circulation - some superb articles, gorgeous photos, but above all imo, an absolutely invaluable reference source.

Actually, the warehouse fire was after issue 21 was printed and hence it, and earlier issues, are the hard ones to find. The reprint of issue 0 is dated 2004. I purchased all of their back issues, including ones which were not in the warehouse at the time of the fire, and still have a number for sale. If interested just email, greg@topworldbooks.com. Cheers, Greg

Thanks for the correction. TopOfWorldBooks actually was the source of maybe 4 or 5 of my back issues of Alpinist, including the original #0. Great experiences.
