Looking for 1 night backpacking trips in San Gabriels

by puffer » Tue Jun 22, 2010 3:28 am

Any ideas for a good 1 night backpacking trip in the San Gabriels? Looking to hike about 10-12 miles each day. Higher elevation preferred, but want to stay out of the snow.

Any leads appreciated!

Mileage is less than you are looking for, but my favorite overnight in the San Gabriels is Ontario Peak via Kelly's Camp:

Thanks guys! Excellent suggestions!

Hiked up Middle Fork to Ontario Peak on Saturday, camped out at Kelly (Just 2 other campers at the site). Sunday, hiked up Timber and Telegraph Mtns and then back to Middle Fork.

Great trip, getting quite hot now mid day (Bring lots of water). Snow is about 99% gone now.

The spring at Kelly Camp was a slow trickle, not sure how much longer that will be running? Incredibly bright full moon and some excellent views at night from the saddle above Kelly Camp. The weather was much warmer through the night than expected, might even say it was hot, the wind picked up around 1am but it didn't get very cool at all.

All in all, a great way to spend a weekend.
