Me and some friends are going july 13 to Conquer Vivian. I had tried this trail last August and failed making it only to the Ridge. Altitude sickness was the reason for the failure, coupled with going a little too headstrong early. I went a couple weeks later but had to take Fish creek or the South fork trail due to bear activity on Vivian.

I was reading the trail conditions early in the week and saw there was snow still around 10k...is the trail still manageable, or is a good gps point by point needed? SGWA reccomends crampons and ice ax, do you agree? I am a greenhorn so to speak and i don't wanna get into something that could jeopardize myself or my friends.

Any comments welcome as well as tips and last minute training recomendations...or even if you want to join in please feel free to meet up. My group of 3-4 will be heading up day of from SD and looking to hit the trail bout 6ish but will prolly wind up at 7ish.
