SAR on Cloudripper 8-21-10

by RickF » Mon Aug 23, 2010 9:56 pm

I saw Inyo County SAR carry/wheel a climber out to South Lake Trailhead early Sunday Morning. They told me a climber fell and broke a leg somewhere on Cloudripper. Does anyone here know where and how the fall occured?

Oooh, that sucks. Since I just did Cloudripper's West Chute a couple weeks ago, I can see how a fall would result in a long trip down any side. Hope he/she heals quickly.

According to the radio this morning, a young guy broke his ankle at Chocolate Lakes. It was to windy to helicopter him out, so SAR had to wheel him out

There are class 3-4 chutes off the West Face of Cloudripper down to Chocolate Lakes. Perhaps descending one of these?

They weren't all that specific on the radio this morning..they just gave the general location of Chocolate Lakes.
They said the young guy got his foot stuck while crossing a boulder field, he tried to move the rock off his foot and another rock slid down and broke his ankle

Ouch, those small accidents are always scary, especially when you're by yourself...
