I don't know what point you are trying to make through the use of one of my photos. Not only does the guy in the background have a cell phone he also has a car up there. Then again, it's in the middle of New Hampshire.

Furthermore, my reference to not needing a phone is due to the fact that many guiding companies now have email and sat phone access available at the base camps.

WOW  I've got no problem if you want to pick on me over something I posted but I think you've really shown us what type of person you are with that reference! Hard to believe in this day and age there are still people out there referring to the mentally challenged using the R word! Hope the SP society jumps all over this one.

(Edit)
P.S. My wife and climbing partner just completed a 10K Torch Run today in support of the Special Olympics. Since the run took place today here is a link from last year's event http://www.ontario.torchrun.org/torchli ... .cfm?ID=68

Erick, at first glance your posted response above seems to denigrate the mentally handicapped individuals in our society...

After all, fighting on the internet is like running in the special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

I don't know any "retards" personally, or you for that matter, but I believe that if you had a more enlightened outlook you might not have publically posted such a dubious response. The linked photo spoke volumes, and not just about the subject. Handicapped and under-priveleged people don't deserve or need the kind of small-minded attitude you may have just exhibited.

...And here I was just thinking that the strenuous and demanding activity of climbing really gave a person a broader, improved, and more educated outlook on life. You know, with all that learning about new cultures, beautiful scenery, serenity, etc you steep yourself in when you go to those places... geez! :?

PS; Brad Marshall has always given me very informative and helpful answers. None tainted with @ssed-ness either...

PS;PS; Erick, no matter what all this bickering is about, I'm really glad you are undertaking all this mountaineering stuff with your family, it's kinda cool...

I think you need a sat phone rather than a cell phone. But you may be use both of this. Try to take your decision early.
