Gila Wilderness Page Revamp: A Call For Images And Ideas

by Bubba Suess » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:34 am

I am beginning a revamp of the Gila Wilderness page. This is one of the great wilderness areas of America and its historical significance is nonpareil. I spent quite a bit of time here but much of it was prior to the acquisition of a camera, so I only have the pictures I took on my last trip there. Aside from a scattering of images already posted, any other images that people want to post would be much, much appreciated. Furthermore, if anyone wants to contribute to the page, that is also more welcome. Even better than working on the page, it would be great if there were new route, canyon and peak page contributions. Mogollon Baldy still has no page...

Anything would be most helpful!

Certainly a great area, was really impressed. Only really went to the cliff dwellings but have added a panorama from the same spot your photo in the Overview section is (see below, long loading time). Have a few others I might be able to add later and some accommodation and other sights info also.

Edit: There's also this older thread, might be some useful additions in there gila-wilderness-nm-t57677.html

I just added a couple photos from the main river canyon, and also a map of the 2011 Miller Fire perimeter. I'll look on my other computer when I get a chance, I think I have at least a couple more images that would be worthwhile. If you think it would be a good addition, you could link my trip report from rafting the river in March 2010: http://frishmanphoto.wordpress.com/writings/rafting-the-gila-wilderness/. We used Gila Backcountry Services (http://www.gilabackcountryservices.com/) for our shuttle, and I'd definitely use them again.

Thanks for all the contributions! As the weather turns snowy out here, I have one other SP post to finish and then I will begin revamping the text of the page. Any ideas are welcome (more images are welcome too)!

Jfrishman, I especially liked your posts on rafting the Gila. I will include links in the final write up.
