Was there in May 2007 and while the plane descended to Chania airport we saw a lot of snow on the Lefka Ori. However, once there it turned out that there were only fields of old snow near the summits. Since most of the mountains are not overly steep there wasn''t any problem. Ginglios we climbed more than a week after arriving and then every snow was gone. To get an impression of May conditions look at the pictures on this page

BTW: I'll be on Crete in May as well, however, in the east. Hoping to find only few snow patches on Dikti and maybe Psiloritis (where we had the most difficult snow traverses during May 2007 - but not really serious)

Looks pretty much the same as when I was there in 2007. Have fun!
