tioga Pass Road

by ScottHanson » Fri Apr 18, 2014 1:40 am

I see a news flash that Tioga Pass may open first or second week in May. Has anyone been up that direction recently?

Roughly how many feet of snow are you seeing at the pass off the road. Thanks!

Notice on here it says the road is open to the High gate:

Anybody know how high is high? Just curious if the "THs" to Mt Warren might be open in a couple weeks.

^^^^That means it is open to Tioga Pass on the east side. The Caltrans description agrees. Driving to the Warren TH should be possible. By the way, it looks like Sonora Pass and Ebbetts Pass are currently open, leaving Tioga and the road beyond Mammoth Mountain as the holdouts. Barring major end of April storms, (IIRC) you can generally count on the east side being plowed to Tioga Pass the last Saturday in April every year for the opening of fishing season. I'd guess Tioga Pass would open in a couple of weeks if not for potential delays that may be caused by the upcoming unsettled weather and storms. In the meantime, (if we get any nice weather) cycling the area would be fun on the weekends without auto traffic.

Thanks Sean! I'm looking two weeks out too, so sounds promising.
