access to twin lakes / matterhorn?

by brichardsson » Thu Mar 09, 2017 10:58 pm

Question for anyone, I have read conflicting accounts as to whether Twin Lakes is accessible during the winter. We are planning on heading up to Matterhorn; I realize conditions are dynamic, but in general what road conditions can we expect at the end of this month?
Don't try to argue with idiots. You aren't the dumbass whisperer.

Bridgeport is in the 50's this week; the road is likely plowed or clear to the gate of the resort. If not, it will be not far from it. You will likely be looking at miles of melting sierra cement on snowshoes after that all the way up. If you go, rec very early start to try and stay as much on top of the snow as possible while its still frozen

Matterhorn is on my list, too. Look forward to reading trip reports from whoever goes.

Giving this topic a bump in case any SPers have hit the Matterhorn lately and know what conditions up there might be like. TIA

Mono Village is open, and the Horse Creek trail is mostly snow-free to the Cattle Creek intersection. Haven't been up, but friends are reporting that sun cups are not yet a factor, at least on the north-facing slopes.
