My neighbor was a Peace Core worker in Thailand, and married a Thai woman. He speaks Thai, and has taught his children the language as well.
In any case, he used to be a big-time rock climber in Yosemite; Thailand was quite a change for him. But he adjusted, began to love the place, and has thought of retiring there.
Thanks! That’s great that your neighbor taught his children the Thai language. I am only able to communicate with my family in Thailand with simple words and sign language. My mom is the only one who can speak both Thai and English so she is our designated translator.
The warm tropical weather in Thailand does take a while to get used to. Your neighbor sounds similar to my dad. He loves going to Thailand in winter but will probably never retire there because of the hot temperatures during the rest of the year. It would be difficult to leave the Rocky Mountains behind too.
