2nd Ascent  Sucess!

Hiked in to Campo Noche on Sunday, climbed the peak on Monday, and hiked out on Tuesday. In order to have plenty of daylight for the drive back, we spent one more night in a campground near the entrance station (camping is not allowed at the trailhead anymore). Three of the five of us made the summit, although we descended in the dark (some delays during the climb, and short days now that it's October).

DPS List Finish  Sucess!

Packed in from the west on Monday, climbing Cerro Botella Azul on the way, climbed the peak on Tuesday, and hiked out on Wednesday. It was much warmer than anticipated. We all ran out of water at times (even though we each took 4 liters on summit day), and I suffered from heat exhaustion on the descent of the peak. Thankfully, there was plenty of water at Campo Noche. We used filters there, and, given the large amount of toilet paper everywhere, was probably a good idea. This was my DPS list finish.

West Side  Sucess!

Really fun trip with a group of 7 people. We took four days for the trip which included a full day of driving on the way down. On Day 2, we hiked to Campo Noche climbing Scout Peak and Blue Bottle Peak along the way. Day 3 was up to the summit and back to Campo Noche. Day 4, we walked back to the trailhead and then drove home.

Great Fun  Sucess!

Dayhiked with Rick Kent and Miguel Forjan in something over 14hrs. Door-to-door from San Jose was 56hrs - that has to be something of a record. :-)

Standard Route, West Approach  Sucess!

Second time was the charm. Tried it in '06 and wound up getting off route on the west face. Came back the next year and made the summit. Very satisfying summit.

Campo Noche, Schad Route #5, Class 3  Sucess!

Cell phones were the size of shoe boxes, so people didn't carry them and GPS units? Who ever heard of those? [Day 1] From San Diego > Tijuana > Baja coast to Meling Ranch > San Pedro de Martir National Park (slept at trailhead). [Day 2] Hiked up Blue Bottle, then down Blue Bottle Saddle to Campo Noche. [Day 3] Our ascent route started from Campo Noche > Night Wash > Slot Wash > Wall Street and final ascent of north summit (all Class 3), back down to Campo Noche. [Day 4] Hiked out, drove to Estero Beach Resort and had a great dinner on the beach. Great weather, great friends, great trip. West Route  Sucess!

Our group of 4 reached the summit in the middle of a 3 day trip. This peak was tougher than I anticipated, in terms of physical effort. You can read more about it in my trip report.
