A fence just for show?

That looks like a fence I wouldn't trust to lean on. I imagine they were going for the natural look and that it is really fairly strong.

Actually, this is a fence of the more solid variety! They usually take some small posts and a wire. "Just to guide the eye". And let me tell you - sometimes you wish you had something to lean on. Look at this picture and try to see the fence!

That other shot shows some nice exposure.

That's a neat mountain and area you've captured for us orographic animals to salivate over.

Re: A fence just for show?

Yes, it's pretty neat. But given the fact that you can drive up all the way on both sides of the summits it gets pretty crowded sometimes, especially on Pico Ruivo which is very easy to stroll up to.

We were pretty "lucky". It was the one day of the year when millions of tiny beetles decided to have their mating ritual, spraying everything with some strange smelling (and tasting, if you didn't close your mouth) fluid. This ritual seems to include landing on the unaware hiker and crawling all over him.

Needless to say that the avarage hiker fled the scene wheras us tough guys :-) closed every opening of our body and trudged on... :-)
