Pinguicula Nevadensis colony

Pinguicula Nevadensis colony

Colony of Pinguicula Nevandensis close to Lac Redon, in Circ de Colomers. The Pinguicula Nevadensis is a small carnivorous plant whose habitat are peat bogs and damp places in general. Their leaves are covered by a sort of short hairs with glands that secrete a sticky liquid capable of trapping small insects. When a prey is trapped, a second kind of glands enter in action secreting acids and enzymes that dissolve the hard parts of their small bodies. The result is a liquid rich in nutrients that is finally absorbed by the thin cuticle that covers the surface of the leave.
