Re: Wonderful...

I just came back from a 15 month trip in China. Ouch. Have to change that picture. Thanks for letting me know.

Re: Wonderful...

Wow 15 months !!!!
And you didn't stay for the olympics ;o)

In your Pissi page you mention that it is compulsory to have a guide to reach base camp of Pissis. Does it mean we have to go through Jonson in Fiambala.
If we have our own 4x4, would it means that we follow the guide in his own 4x4 ?

Thanks mate !

Re: Wonderful...

Thanks for looking into the page and letting me know that updates are needed. The guide requirement isn't compulsory anymore. It was a 1 or 2 season thing, but as far as I know that rule isn't there anymore. Will change it.

Olympics...nah. Too expensive and everything in and around Beijing was so booked out.

Re: Wonderful...

OK thanks !

Do you know if the trail between the paved road (to Paso San Francisco) and the base camp of Pissis is complicated with a 4x4 ?
Can we drive up to the base camp at 4600m ?

Re: Wonderful...

I have traveled it once by 4x4 and once by bike. It's on the rough side in places, but not a problem. On the Pissis page there are some photos where the track is visible.

Re: Wonderful...

Thanks Janne you're of such great help !!
As long as the trail is easy to follow with a 4x4, it should be alright, I'm sure.

- How long does it with a 4x4 to reach base camp from the main paved road leading to Paso San Francisco ?
- If we are acclimatized how many days are necessary from Base Camp at 4600m to Summit ? (1 or 2 higher camps ?)
- Can we drive all the way to the base camp spot ?

Would you say it's a nice summit to ascend, as there is a glacier and it is in a remote area ?

Again thank you !!

Re: Wonderful...

1). Can't recall how long it took, but I guess it was a matter of 3-4h. Guessing.
2). We set one camp at the foot of the peak, close to the glacier. From there it wasn't a problem to reach the summit, but I also saw another team setting a camp higher up as well, i.e. two camps on the peak.
3). Yes, the track is drivable all the way to BC:
4). The views of all many of the high Puna peaks and the strongly colored lakes are wonderful. I also liked the desolation in the area. IF you're after something more than a walk-up, Pissis may not be so interestin though.

Pissis...

2) you mean that after Base Camp at 4600m, you set up only one higher camp before summitting ?
If so, do you have an idea of the altitude of that higher camp ?
How many hours from the higher camp to the summit ?

4) All summits of the Puna are walk-ups as far as I know, so we might as well walk on a glacier and enjoy colorful lakes !

I might ask some more questions at some point, if we go for it next winter. Merci mille fois pour ton aide ;o)

Re: Pissis...

2). It's all on the route page and here's a photo. I'm fast, so don't count too much on the time it took me to climb from "ABC" to summit. 4h10m. 4). Walk-ups. Yes. The only exceptions are perhaps El Muerto from Argentina (long glacier) and one of the Tres Cruces peaks (steepish snow and ice).
I'm trying to make it back to Argentina this winter as well.
