Thanks! I've never been there, but the Tetons are on my wishlist.
The mountains in this area are not among the highest in the alps, but because of the low elevation of the valley floors, they still rise over 2000 vertical meters above the valley.

Thats exactly what makes the Tetons look so big is the low valley floor. Vertical relief is what makes a mountain look big in the end. Thats was make so many of the peaks in Alaska look so huge. There are 10,000ers that look like 20,000ers because they start from sea level.

Indeed, I've seen photos of Mount Saint Elias (although not in Alaska) from the Sea, that mountain is so huge, just awesome

Yea that mountain is on my dream list for sure! Have you seen the documentary called Mount St Elias about the ski ascent and descent of it? I think you can find it on youtube and netflix. Its pretty ganrly.
