Standard route from Silverthorne  Sucess!

Wow, trailheads don't get much more convenient to town (Silverthorne) than this one! We hiked with all three dogs. It was a dry, sunny day and there is little shade on this route, so if you bring your pups, bring more water than you think you'll need. Saw only 3 other parties on this route and one of these was a two-person USFS crew clearing trail. Loved the views from the top!

Hot down low, perfect up high  Sucess!

Passed 24 people while going up. Saw nobody on the summit and only two people on my descent back to the truck. Seems this is a very popular trail, but maybe just a fraction go all the way up to the summit, or even above treeline. Great views of the Gore Range.

Ptarmigan Peak to Pass  Sucess!

It was a steady climb of about 3100’ to get to the summit. From there we contoured along the ridgeline to Ptarmigan Pass (11,777’). We then unfortunately had to gain some elevation again to pick up the trail back to our cars. Clouds were building on the way down, and we got some sprinkles but nothing crazy. The whole trip was about 14.5 miles with close to 3900’ of gain. We had delicious watermelon waiting for us at the trailhead.

Hike/snowshoe combo  Sucess!

It was a great day up in the Williams Fork Mtns! Conditions were very mixed, though, which made for a more challenging climb. Started out dry from Silverthorne, then patches of snow on the trail with some postholing (sometimes over a foot deep!) up to about 10K feet. Solid snow from there with some areas of postholing even with snowshoes. Once at the ridgeline (11K+ feet), solid and stable snow all the way to the summit. Enjoyed having the entire ridge and summit to myself with great views of the surrounding valleys and mtn ranges!

Safe ski tour  Sucess!

I enjoyed touring up this peak, which was a safe low-angle ski tour in the winter. The ski down was not exactly exciting, but was a good way to stretch the legs
