Quartzite
Although the Snowy Range does receive a great deal of snow, it actually gets its name from the white quartzite that comprises much of its cliffs and crest. This outcrop is on the ridge just north of the divide between the Gap Lakes; the ridge climbs to the Medicine Bow Peak massif, cresting about 1.5 miles from the peak's summit.
