Return to the Red Zone

View over "slickrock" (north of Bell Rock) toward the prominent gap between Battlement Mesa (left) and the West Ridge of Lee Mountain (right). From the end of Chapel Road in south Sedona, the Little Horse Trail winds through the gap, leading into a shallow, verdant canyon on the opposite side of the towering ridge. In this section of the 18,150-acre Munds Mountain Wilderness, the trail enters pristine stands of Arizona Cypress and One-Seeded juniper trees. August 13, 2009
