It is "four" of everything... Vier wald (=four forests) vier Städtter (=four cities....)

Re: Nice LakeVierwaldstädtteresee = lac des Quatre Cantons in french. The four cantons of Uri, Lucerne, Unterwalden and Schwyz share the lake. Three of them (Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden) founded Switzerland the first august 1291with a vow of perpetual alliance on the meadow of Rütli.
