Rock cairn in wash

On our route up to the first saddle, we got into a wash and followed it until we saw this boulder that had a cairn placed on top. When we found this cairn, we exited the wash and went to our right where we soon encountered a trail that appeared to have been built in the 30's and led up to the saddle at 7202 on the topo map. The purpose of the trail? I would love to know but we were surprised to find it there.
